Management training when change becomes more discontinuous
Change is different from what it used to be. In the past, most change has been continuous and comfortable. But not always, wars, technological leaps, large demographic changes, changed set of values, economic reforms or political events have created discontinuous and uncomfortable change. These events come faster and faster. It is suggested, however, that change in the future will become more and more discontinuous. Some authors suggest that we are entering an age of unreason, a time when the only prediction that will hold true is that no prediction will hold true. But discontinuous change does not necessarily have to be uncomfortable, on the contrary, we just have to learn to understand how to utilise new opportunities. Therefore management training programmes must become flexible and adaptive. Faith, intuition, belief, i.e. non scientific values must underpin new approaches to management training. Whilst situation analysis will help understand what is happening and how best to cope it is forseeing paradigm shifts that will be the secret to successful management training programmes in the future.
