This financial awareness management training course is designed to provide participants with a clear understanding of the financial aspects of a typical organisation's operations so that they can conduct an assessment of financial position and trading performance and draw accurate conclusions. This will ensure that managers who are outside the accounting function will have sufficient financial awareness to be able to converse competently and confidently with other managers on financial matters.

Each and every manager must be a generalist with sound business knowledge in the world of finance rather than the traditional view being an operational, or functional specialist. As a result organisations benefit from having individual managers with a more informed understanding of business decisions and more confident and competent in handling accounting data and discussing financial topics.

This management training course is a natural extension of a strategic review and works well as part of a business trilogy with marketing and personnel management training courses. Other financial awareness management training courses can also be delivered.

The trilogies effectiveness can be enhanced by including modules covering a computerised business simulation and action centred learning.

Programme Introduction

This financial awareness management training course is designed to provide participants with a clear understanding of the financial aspects of a typical organisation's operations so that they can conduct an assessment of financial position and trading performance and draw accurate conclusions. This will ensure that managers who are outside the accounting function will have sufficient financial awareness to be able to converse competently and confidently with other managers on financial matters.

(Please note the programme does not entitle any participant to conduct formal accounting audits or to carry out accounts preparation which leads to audit).

Participants will learn the meaning of the key fundamental concepts which underpin accounting principles; how to read financial statements in order to pin-point essential items of information; how to assess their own and competitors' capability using inter-company comparison techniques; how to monitor and control in-house financial activity and how to locate areas within a company for performance improvement.

The design of this two day financial awareness management training course is generic however it will be tailored to meet our client's specific requirements.

This financial awareness course will ensure that accounting standards and conventions used in the production of financial statements will be carefully explained. A key aspect of the course will be in assessing financial capability. This will be measured in terms of profitability, liquidity, working capital considerations and trading performance. This will establish a firm foundation for the establishment of financial control leading to improved performance. This ability will be enhanced through profit planning using budgeting, ratio techniques and other control methods.

This generic financial awareness course consists of the following sessions:

1) FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS

2) FINANCIAL STATEMENTS

3) ASSESSING FINANCIAL CAPABILITY

4) FINANCIAL CONTROL

Having grasped a basic financial awareness the focus of attention of the delegates will be shifted in the direction of the methods for improving an organisation's performance on a consistent and systematic basis for the future. Techniques for keeping track of improvement programmes will be reviewed.

Practical case work will characterise this financial awareness training course. Participants will be provided with useful formats to conduct financial appraisals and to implement monitoring techniques.

This management training course can be enhanced by including elearning and a computerised business simulation involving establishing a business plan, running a company, generating wealth, seizing commercial opportunities (and combating threats), forecasting, delivering an AGM ...
