Today, when internet companies with scarcely any physical capital are sold for £ millions, it is no longer controversial to state that intangible assets have more importance than tangible assets. All organisations possess knowledge, but few even now have the strategy, the systems and the skills to harness and nurture it. As Lew Platt, former Chief Executive of Hewlett Packard, put it:
‘If HP knew what HP knows, it would be three times as profitable!’
Programme Introduction
This course is not for the Knowledge Management specialist, it is aimed primarily at the manager relatively new to the concepts of Knowledge Management, perhaps slightly sceptical of the benefits promised by a knowledge-based configuration of organisational processes.
Nor do you need to possess a great deal of familiarity with IT (Information Technology) to make sense of the material provided in this course. Its purpose is to examine the key principles behind the developing theory of Knowledge Management, and to put forward some practical techniques for effective management of individual and organisational knowledge.
