Most large organisations recognise the need to use their people in the most effective way. We believe that to maintain long term success it is imperative to utilise some means of performance review as an inherent part of staff and HR management development strategy and culture.
We think that performance review linked to development sits at the heart of cultures dedicated to maximising human potential.
We can run one, two or three day performance review and development learning modules dependent upon whether the full breadth of this approach is adopted, what depth each session is taken to and the number of levels involved.
Programme Introduction
A thorough appreciation of the client company's culture, background, current status and future objectives is essential prior to the course, together with an understanding of HR management development methods and performance review systems employed. The focus of this performance review course option is on:
the performance review philosophy
- performance review principles
- preparation by both the manager and employee
- preparation of discussion and questioning areas in relation to past performance and future progress and development
- agreement of future targets and objectives and development needs
- conduct of the performance review interview with emphasis on questioning and control, structure, personal skills and styles, environment and atmosphere
- if appropriate an outline of the scheme you operate or are introducing
We believe that performance review and development (PRD) is not just a question of reviewing achievement against in-job competencies or performance improvement targets it is also about looking at a variety of factors that impact upon any individuals ability to perform effectively, within the organisation as a whole. Handling poor performance and initiating performance improvement action therefore needs an holistic approach with an individuals performance development portfolio (PDP's) in a central developmental role.
The performance review course starts by reviewing what performance review and development is and what it is not. Reasons why it is needed and benefits accruing will be examined, thereby establishing its importance and placing the performance review process into a strategic organisational context. This is enhanced by looking at performance review aims, the role of standards and competencies and how performance improvement links to behaviour, attitude and compliance with corporate systems, e.g. procedures, policies and regulations as well as job knowledge and skills. These considerations are placed into context by connecting to both individual and organisational development constraints and requirements. As a result it will be demonstrated how performance review, supported by PDP's, delivers realistic objectives designed to develop skills and drive change. The HR management course moves through sessions entitled, setting the scene, planning and preparation, the performance review, and personal development planning.
Our performance review training courses can be customised, modularised, designed and delivered as:
- a stand alone module
- part of a HR management programme
- part of a HR development programme
- part of an ISM certified course
This HR management development programme can conclude with an organisational postscript to place the performance review process (and PDP's) into context by looking at strategic issues particularly driving forces that may be affecting the organisation.
