There is more to team building than establishing comradeship. For team building to be successful team members need to manage their resources.

We live in a demanding world. There is never enough time, money, or resources available to do what we would like.

But that is always going to be a reality therefore it is how we manage the time and resources at our disposal that makes the difference between mediocrity and excellence - this then is this courses aim.

resource management and effective team building is not a luxury it is an imperative - team building is a 21st century cultural initiative.

Programme Introduction

Many aspiring managers fail when pressure combined with complexity results in a confused mind, a chaotic environment and a stressed person. For team building to succeed in demanding environments requires the following:-

  1. An holistic view of business and our role within the vision.
  2. A clear focus of what is important
  3. Resilience, tenacity, patience, perseverance, determination
  4. Communication, motivation, and planning skills

This resource and task management course deals with these issues and is a natural extension to our team building training courses .

Achievement (or lack off) is often the combined effect of the many decisions we make each and every day. However without quality information and/or judgment, based on intuition or experience, resources easily become consumed but usually without optimisation and therefore fail to add the greatest value. The lack of appreciation of the resource / value relationship coupled with the ability to classify resource type and the time and amount needed to secure objectives contributes to a stressed environment and loss of productivity.

Team building to achieve results has always been and always will be difficult.

This team building course will therefore cultivate participants awareness of how to manage resources and tasks between the required results and the unexpected demands, the need to attend to maintenance work but only as a means of achieve the important value adding work. The guiding principle throughout is to provide a practical period of learning to understand the subject of resource and task management.

The team building course will therefore cover various aspects of how best to manage departmental time and resources in the context of business requirements and how to overcome problems arising from unexpected and sudden changes in business objectives. Managed well change will release energy, enhance motivation and productivity and not result in demoralised, demotivated, dissatisfied staff as is often the case.

Throughout the course a variety of time measurement methods and time management techniques will be examined and practised, each one having its best fit to an appropriate task or situation. Tasks will be broken into manageable and discrete elements or activities and benchmarks for estimating will be established.

The estimating phase is critical to effective resource and task management as it will ensure that plans are realistic and therefore achievable before they are published. The various approaches to estimating practise will be reviewed and used. Each participant will gain a clear understanding of the principle planning techniques of GANTT, CPM and PERT and they will use these techniques on case work during the course. The range of documentation and procedural aspects will be covered. PERT is the most advanced project management system and the most demanding and therefore it will form the bulk of the work done in this area.

Estimating and planning will result in resource plans and schedules being created.

A major cause of resource and task management dissatisfaction is a factor called time slip. The problems arising from time slippage and the threat of its consequences will therefore be reviewed.
